Since the early 2000s, the work of the two brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec has emerged as one of the most representative of the dynamism of French design. Working as a duo since 1998, the two brothers now design for many manufacturers, while continuing their experimental research activities.

Known for their formal research, particularly around the vase, the brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec have created the Découpage collection: astonishing vases with strong plastic and sculptural qualities.

The Découpage vases are composed of a cylindrical body in enameled porcelain on which are grafted various decorative elements in clay with fluid and organic shapes. These plastic assemblages form abstract compositions that play on combinations of varied shapes and colors. The decorative clay elements (plates, bar, loop, etc.) are removable: like a painter composing a painting, the user is invited to compose his vase.

Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec: ''Each shape is cut out of a clay plate. Some fit together. Others fit together. Some point. Others connect. Each cylinder is cast. All are figures of a unique and capricious composition.''

All elements are hand-tinted. Featuring irregular contours, they have a distinct handmade appearance. Together, they create poetic compositions that look different from every angle: whimsical, ironic, unusual, alive.

Ronan Bouroullec explains: ''The arrangements form a fragile balance, as the contrasting colours and layers converge to create a new harmony.''
