NikeCraft x Tom Sachs Clothing Collection

TOM SACHS is a sculptor, perhaps best known for his elaborate recreations of various modern icons, all of which are masterpieces of engineering and design of one kind or another. In an early exhibition, he made Knoll office furniture out of phone books and duct tape; later, he recreated Le Corbusier’s 1952 Unité d’Habitation using only foamcore and a glue gun. Other projects have included his versions of various Cold War masterpieces, like the Apollo 11 Lunar Excursion Module and the bridge of the USS Enterprise battleship. And because no engineering project is more complex and pervasive than the corporate ecosystem, he’s made versions of those as well, including a McDonald’s that he built using plywood, glue, and various kitchen appliances. He’s also made Hello Kitty and friends in materials ranging from foamcore to bronze.

NikeCraft fuses imaginative aesthetics with functional innovation into truly extraordinary products. Inspired by Tom Sachs’ DIY approach to art, these designs utilize unprecedented materials and construction methods. Taken together, these pieces challenge how and why we create clothing for bodies in motion.
This collection notably includes the Exploding Poncho. The idea for this poncho belt emerged in 2015 and according to Nike, it was "perfected over the course of four years, including dozens of prototypes, countless tests and manipulations."
Sachs worked with Jarrett Reynolds, Nike's director of special projects design, to perfect the idea of a belt with a quick-deploying poncho that could be quickly unpacked and repacked.

After having first proven his ability to reinvent everyday equipment with the Nike Mars Yard Overshoe, Tom Sachs is doing it again with this outwear collection combining performance and the aesthetics of space programs.

Product Description: This hooded poncho comes in white. The design is completed by a silver swoosh on the front, an American flag on the right sleeve as well as a handwritten inscription on the back. Designed as a real functional innovation, this poncho transforms into an ultra-practical belt bag with side straps and several storage pockets.
    Material composition: Dyneema® fabric
