A multifaceted character, Roger Capron is the only French ceramist of his time who both accomplished a significant artistic work and founded a leading industrial company. After studying under the decorator René Gabriel, he finally chose to become a ceramist. In 1946, he created the Callis workshop in Vallauris with Robert Picault. It was during this period that the emblematic forms and representations of his work appeared: branches, stylized characters, suns and geometric patterns.

In 1952, with the purchase of a disused pottery, his industrial adventure began. Demonstrating an astonishing sense of his time, he developed models whose decorations he renewed for the trade fairs in which he participated each year (Ceramics Fair, Furniture Fair and Batimat).
The glazed tiles that he made in the same patterns as his other pieces allowed, through assembly games, the creation of occasional furniture and decorative panels. His fame was such that, very quickly, copies of his production appeared in Italy in particular.
At the end of the 1950s, the commission for a 300 m2 fresco for the Cannes maritime station introduced him to architectural ceramics. Three years later, he created the sandstone dance floor for the famous Byblos hotel in Saint-Tropez. This new hard and shiny material seduced him and led him to change his type of production.

In 1982, following the economic crisis, Roger Capron had to close his company. It was then that he began a completely new line of work with unique pieces, close to sculpture.

Today, Roger Capron's work is the subject of real enthusiasm among collectors throughout the world.
