Typologie is a collection of design books about ordinary objects. This issue is dedicated to the cork stopper, from the first cut specimens of the 16th century to contemporary agglomerated versions. Contents: a large photographic section, a journey through the cork forests and factories of Portugal, industrial archives and corked anecdotes, and the sensitive encounter between a manufacturer, a famous consultant and a Catalan designer.
This small, devoted and familiar cylinder has always sounded like a cheerful call that brings guests to it. Due to its natural origin, its ancient origin and its effectiveness in preserving wine, the cork stopper occupies an important place in our culture. However, the interest we have in it diminishes as soon as it is extracted and it goes rolling under the palms, on the tablecloths and the zincs. Typologie has looked into this omnipresent object and gives it in the issue dedicated to it all the attention that its beauty deserves.
It presents the culture of cork in the cork oak forests of Portugal, its artisanal harvest and addresses the challenges of this industry that subtly mixes machine and hand. It questions the object in its use and its role in the aging of wine. By reading this issue, the reader will be able to understand the reason for his attachment to this consumable and discover its importance in the ritual of tasting.

Typologie is a collection of design books to travel to the source of the objects that surround us, offering a new perspective on them. Each issue is dedicated to an ordinary object. It inventories its forms, reveals the mysteries of its manufacture, tells its story and allows us to discover its world through the voice of passionate specialists.

Each issue, published in a French and an English version, is composed of two parts: the first, printed in three colors on thick paper, presents a series of original photos of ancient and contemporary objects faithfully reproduced. The second, printed in color on thin paper, brings together the authors' texts, a cross-interview, factory reports and a set of archive images.
